You may have seen a targeted ad on social media claiming that 1st Bank of Sea Isle City experienced a data breach.  Please be assured that 1st Bank’s own systems and data infrastructure have not been impacted by a cyber-security event of any kind.

We have recently learned, however, that one of our vendors, Mercadien P.C., CPAs, experienced a data security incident.  This company provided advisory services for 1st Bank of Sea Isle City in early 2024 and in the course of that work was in possession of data pertaining to some of our customers.

  • 1st Bank’s own systems and data infrastructure were not impacted in this incident. This event was limited to the vendor's environment.
  • Mercadien P.C. CPAs has been named in class action litigation. Parties to such litigation are obligated to disclose certain information related to the incident. This will likely involve, or may have already involved, how the vendor came to possess the impacted data, including the vendor’s relationship with 1st Bank.
  • Although the full scope of the data security incident is still being determined, we understand that data pertaining to some of our customers may have been impacted. However, this does not necessarily mean that this information has been or will be misused.
  • We are in the process of preparing formal notices for our customers whose data may have been impacted. Such notices will be mailed in the coming weeks.
We emphasize that there is currently no evidence that any information has been misused, disclosed, or distributed for any reason.

These situations have unfortunately become increasingly common. Nevertheless, we recognize the concern that an event like this can cause, and we have been assured that the vendor has taken steps to address it.
